Digital Detox

7 practices designed to soothe the nervous system and help you come into better relaxation and calm

Day 6 - Digital Detox

Taking control over our relationship with our mobiles

The Practice

• The practice will be different for everyone based on your phone usage, but a few ideas:

• Do not look at your phone for at least one hour after you wake up and at least one hour before you go to bed

• When not in use - put your phone away, ideally in a draw in another room

• Buy an alarm clock so that your phone does not come into the bedroom

• A more extreme test is to spend 24 hours with your phone turned off, This one takes a bit of planning but is so worthwhile - I quickly notice a difference in my mood and find it easier to stay off my phone afterwards

The Logic

• Limiting and managing phone use can have myriad positive benefits - increased mood, better sleep, more productivity and more presence to name a few

• The fact of even taking control of our relationship with our phones can improve confidence and independence

• Managing phone use at night can be especially important - putting away our phones before bed stops blue light from tricking your brain, leading to better sleep
