Nature is Medicine
Just your quick reminder from me that spending time in nature is full of so much healing.
Last weekend I went away to Totnes in Devon. I’ve been to other parts of Devon and always got on well with it, lots of beautiful countryside and nice people, but this was more than just a sightseeing trip. I have for a little while been contemplating moving out of London and have been looking at a few other nearby areas where I might want to move to. Even then, I hadn’t really considered Totnes as an option until I was in a mushroom ceremony at the start of the year where at one point I received a message that Totnes might be my place.
Now having made the mistake many times before of thinking what happened in a ceremony was fact I was sure to treat this download with some scepticism, and of course decided to go visit Totnes (about 4 hours travel from where I currently live) before making any life-changing decisions. Nonetheless, there was a tinge of real excitement as I approached somewhere that might be a future home.
I so wanted to love it - and yet I found I really didn’t. Of course it’s a beauitful place but it really didn’t feel like my place. And so honestly, I was feeling pretty despondent come the end of the weekend.
On my final day I had planned to go for a hike and campout on Dartmoor (more on this in a future post). And honestly, this was what was amazing to me - as soon as I started walking out in nature I felt immediately better. And it was a reminder to me that I always feel better when I walk out in nature, whether that’s a lap of the park, a few sun salutations in the garden or a longer hike.
I didn’t find a new home but I was reminder of the home I already have inside myself, and how this is only ever nurtured by quality time in nature. Is time in nature a regular part of your week? And if not, how can it be. Trust me, you will thank yourself for it!
