7-Day Nervous System Reset
7 practices designed to help you come into better relaxation and calm
Day 1 - Morning Light
A great start to the day and a natural remedy for poor sleep.
The Practice
• Simply go outside first thing in the morning, for at least 15 minutes
• You can do some gentle movement practice or just sit quietly - but avoid looking at any screens at this time
• If you don’t have easy access to some outdoor space (or the weather is really atrocious) you can do the same practice by staring out of an open window
• Morning light is a great way to the start the day and is proven to help sleep (see next page)
The Logic
• Morning light naturally regulates our circadian rhythm. Production of melotonin (the sleep hormone) stops and a natural rise of cortisol begins, getting ready for the day ahead
• Melatonin naturally restarts production around 14 hours later, creating a strong sleep cycle
• Morning light also increases production of serotonin, a chemical that improves mood and mental clarity.
• Taking 15 or 20 minutes outside can also be a great way to bring in some other practices - see what’s to come in the next few days!
