7-Day Nervous System Reset
7 practices designed to help you come into better relaxation and calm
Day 2 - Coherent Breath
Breath as an anchor for more calm and presence
The Practice
• There are countless different breath practices all with their own merits. But we will be working with one of the most simple - Coherent Breath
• Get into a comfortable position - you can be sitting, standing or lying down. Place one hand on your belly and breath in slowly through your nose and down into the belly for 5-6 seconds, feeling your belly expand
• Gently release the breath, again for 5-6 seconds. This can be through the nose or mouth
• Breathe like this, gently in and out for 5-6 seconds, for at least 2 minutes and up to 5 (or more if you start enjoying it!)
• Do this practice as part of your morning routine, PLUS anytime you start to feel a bit stressed
The Logic
• Coherent breath is one of the most simple ways to regulate the nervous system, activating our parasympathetic nervous system (“rest and digest”)
• This steady rhythm syncs your heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration, which builds physical and mental resilience.
• Regular practice can help with emotional regulation and mental clarity
• Available any time - the beauty of this practice is that you can do it whenever and wherever, so draw on it in times of stress or anxiety and see if you feel a change.
